LANE COVE RIVER KAYAKERS

Lane Cove River Kayakers is a racing and fitness paddling club based at Rotary Athletics Field, Lane Cove North, Sydney. We meet every Wednesday evening throughout the year setting out from 6.25pm for a 12km, 9km or 6km time trial on tranquil Lane Cove River.

PNSW Marathon Series #4 - Lane Cove - Sun 30 Mar 2025

Welcome to Lane Cove River Kayakers hosting of Race 4. This year LCRK offers an interesting 7.5km course starting upstream in a mangrove lined stretch of the Lane Cove River and paddling down to the mansions of Linley Point, with fleeting views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge from the bottom turn.

The Aboriginal name for Lane Cove river was Turrumburra and the LCRK club award for the fastest paddler is known as the Turrumburra trophy. We would like to acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we are meeting, the Cammeraygal People, and acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who now reside in this area. We extend that respect to Elders – past and present – and future cultural knowledge holders.

As can be seen from the map above, the Lane Cove River has lots of twists and turns, and sections which are navigable at high but not low tide. Last time, course length was 'just right' - due to it being set with both separation buoys and ALSO with Hazard buoys which are part of the course. The Hazard Buoys are black and white striped - signifying no corner cutting, do not go shoreside! Note there will be no portage this year.

We look forward to seeing you there!
